The Walking Roots Band is an acoustic-Americana, folk, bluegrass, and roots music group from Harrisonburg, VA. Currently located in the Shenandoah Valley, the Walking Roots Band has its roots in communities in western and southeastern Pennsylvania, Holmes County, Ohio, and the thumb of Michigan. The members of the band grew up in musical families and churches with strong singing traditions. When they moved away to college, many of the members ended up together at a small Mennonite university in the Shenandoah Valley. Their friendships developed around shared interests like making applesauce and discovering new music, but they became family when they started playing and singing together. After college, the Walking Roots Band took a more formal shape, and they started writing original folk songs and crafting arrangements of old hymn texts. The music they make together has seen the band through five albums, countless weekend tours, loss, sorrow, new life, and joy, and they continue to learn from each other about living as a community of faith and hope. The 2016 release, "Way Back Home," evokes themes of home, loss, long, hope, life, love, and laughter, and listeners are led through the beautiful songwriting by equally honest and heartfelt vocal performances and arrangements.
