简介

Currently a jazz guitar student at York U in Toronto, Geoff McFarlane has being playing music since his sixth birthday. He grew up on Saltspring Island, where he formed and played in several local bands including Wallabee Indeed, The Artist Party Revolution and GetBack2Me. These bands could be seen in and around the Vancouver's Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island and the Southern Gulf Islands of British Columbia's West Coast between 2010 and 2012. Geoff has with these bands and solo shared bills with the likes of Aidan Knight, We Are The City, KC Kelly, Raffi and more. Geoff's first solo EP, Ouest Side Son will be released this August courtesy of Shelter Valley Studios. The album is written, composed and arranged by McFarlane but features many of the musicians he met traveling Canada as well as living for extended periods of time in Montreal and Toronto. These musicians include members of Toronto band Mighty Big Word, a McGill violin student, a Toronto lawyer and many more. McFarlane's music is greatly inspired by the country he lives and travels in. He is comfortable writing in English and French as is evident in the first song on the EP, Dying Breath, which switches continuously between the two languages throughout the piece. His main instrument is his guitar but Geoff has been practicing as a singer for the past 8 or 9 years as well as being a proficient piano player from many hours of lessons in his childhood. His guitar playing is featured very prominently on the CD great care was taken to make sure there is an instrumental in each song despite that often being frowned upon in modern music. He is now 20 and currently the lead guitarist for Toronto band The Shelters (Mint 400 Records, NY)
