Gera Davidson is the brainchild and director of the one, man pop/ electro outfit Davidson. Using multi instrumentation, wickedly sleek electronic beats and borrowing vocals from some of the most talented singers in his region the outcome is a lush and polished, fructification. Growing up in a small kibbutz community in North Israel, it would seem that Davidson has alighted a long way from home to deliver his talents. Itching his feet around each corner of the globe, traveling through Europe, The Far East and soon after landing in Australia, Davidson attributes a huge dose of his inspiration to his worldly adventures. Setting up base in the Northern Rivers or what is known as the eccentric Rainbow Region of Australia, Davidson would eventually finish a degree in contemporary music at Lismore’s, Southern Cross University. Davidson is now ready after a lifetime of worldly and musical pursuits to release his handsome debut EP Dreamcatcher. Gera describes himself as “a man of many contradictions.” His songs speak of longing and regrets for past mistakes, fear and excitement for what the future holds, and conflicted joy for the present. Dreamcatcher is a collection of this producer’s dreams and aspirations as a young man and intrepid wanderer. Inspired by an art piece by local artist Naomi Long which reminded the producer of a Steven King novel ‘The Dreamcatcher,’ it only seemed fitting to name the release in it’s vain. Davidson uses striking sounds reminiscent of post punk eighties noise with influences including Joy Division and Depeche Mode. That combined with contemporary sounds similar to the likes of Moby and German act Naomi , Davidson’s sound is an aural landscape of old, new and everything in between. Playing each and every instrument on the release and producing the entire EP himself, Davidson is an all rounder with a plethora of talent to offer.
