The release of The Blue Angel Lounge is special in two ways, it is the 10th realease on 8MM Musik and also it is the 1st german band signed by the label..The band was introduced to 8MM Musik, by the former Spacemen 3 bass player Will Carruthers, The label was impressed by the very unique and adult sound of the very young band (22-24 years old) from Hagen. Not only the bands name is related to The Velvet Underground, also the sound can be clearly identified. Opposite to many other bands who tried to sound like TVU, The Blue Angel manage to sound fresh, authentic and distinct. It is their juvenile lightness that allows them to mix the sound of the late sixties with 90ies shoegazer and todays neoshoegazer. Other influences, My Bloody Valentine, Spiritualized, Galaxy 500, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Singapore Sling, The December Sound, The Warlocks. The band was formed 2005 by Nils Ottensmeyer and Dennis Melster,. Over the years other musicians came and went. 2008 The Blue Angel Lounge was invited to play the Dream Machine Festival in Sheffield, what led to the contribution of their song The God to the Open Your Mind compilation wich was voted DIY Compilation Of The Week by the BBC. 8MM Musik is very happy that it stumbled over this young talent and is happy to promote them so they get the success they deserve.
