Con Gracias is the debut recording from Toronto-born bassist, composer and educator Will Jarvis. The recording features a collection of original compositions with beautiful melodies and sizzling grooves. The music consists of the traditional Afro-Cuban song forms Danzon-mambo, Cha-cha-chá and Bolero, as well as Latin Jazz and Afro-Peruvian styles. Will Jarvis is a busy freelance bassist, composer and educator who has been active on the Toronto music scene for many years. Will’s affection for Afro-Cuban music began in the 1990s when he first played with some of the Toronto-area Salsa and Latin Jazz groups. During this time, Will had the great pleasure of performing live with Afro-Cuban giants Tito Puente, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Dave Valentine, Hilton Ruiz and Luis Conte. Over his long career Will has backed up such international artists as Del Shannon, Bob Newhart and Rich Little and has also worked with many Toronto-area artists including David Clayton-Thomas, Bruce Cassidy’s Hotfoot Orchestra, Amy Sky, Jackie Richardson, Carlos Del Junco and Louise Pitre. Music theatre credits include Toronto productions of Peter Pan, 9 To 5: the Musical and Jersey Boys, among others. These days you can find Will performing regularly with Manteca, Paul DeLong’s "Bucket Of Fish Orchestra", Trevor Dick Band and Memo Acevedo’s "Building Bridges Band." As an educator, Will has been teaching at the college and university level for more than twenty-five years and is on the music faculty at Humber College in Toronto and Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario.
