简介
Kay Andreas (Kostopoulos) is a San Francisco Bay Area based vocalist, percussionist, professional actress, and drama teacher at Stanford University. She has appeared throughout the Bay Area with guitarists, Lenny Carlson and Josh Workman; pianists Larry Vuckovich, Si Perkoff and Roscoe Gallo; bassists Bill Douglass and Barry Green; percussionists Jimmy Robinson, Michael Pinkham, Oliver Brown and Roberto Acevedo. She has also been a featured vocalist with David Hardiman's Big Band. Her group, Black Olive Jazz has performed at concerts, nightclubs, wineries, and universities. Kay did the arrangement for "Senor Magic", a 6/8 variation on "That Old Black Magic", based on Horace Silver's jazz classic Senor Blues. It features L.A. based master percussionist, Oliver Brown on congas and shaker. Kay also arranged ""Whatever Lola Wants" with a beautiful arco bass introduction by Bill Douglass. "Fine Brown Frame" pays homage to the amazing and adventurous vocals of Nellie Lutcher; and features the soulful piano stylings of Roscoe Gallo. To honor two of her favorite composers, Kay chose Ellington's "I'm Just a Lucky So and So", and Strayhorn's "Passion Flower". "Lucky So and So" delights with Lenny Carlson's creative voicings and smokin guitar riffs. "Passion Flower" is given a haunting minimalist treatment with just bass and guitar accompaniment. On the next two cuts, Kay adds some original lyric improvisations to Annie Ross' classic, "Twisted", and a sensual acapello introduction to the classic, "Besame Mucho". The musical journey is completed with "Cry Me a River", with a moving arrangement and performance by Lenny Carlson.
