Introducing Lila Drew, the pop synic who make pop music. Now, approaching her 21st birthday and beginning her sophomore year at Yale, Lila Drew is preparing to share a new collection of songs, deeply inspired by the diverse musical influences of her youth. First up, “2023, ” which Lila wrote with Sachi Diserafino from Joy Again and combines a classic pop chorus with a lot of funky little sounds and imperfections. "Essentially, 2023 is about predictability. When I wrote it, I was taking a break from school and spending all of my time writing, which was amazing and allowed me to release a lot of emotion, but also was lonely in a lot of ways. I was frustrated with the way I was living — I was spending all of my time in this introspective place. I wasn’t really going outside enough, or eating much, or seeing anyone. And it was totally my own fault - I’ve always struggled with anxiety in different ways and 2023 was this sort of playful and funny take on that. I wanted to take my own weird fears and anxieties and play them off in a way that felt super casual. The main message, I guess, is this fear that the ways in which I act now are the ways in which I will always act — that’s sort of where the “how did now turn into 2023” line came in. It’s all about what goes around comes around, that the things we do now are the things we will continue to do forever." - Lila
