简介
Toronto-based Contemporary Gospel singer Zion came into the world as Marinda Mutuale Kikanke, the child of Congolese (ex-Zaire) parents building a new life in Manhattan, New York. Her parents’ respective careers, however, began to require a great deal of travel, and the family took on a nomadic nature, frequently relocating to various parts of the globe. As a result, Zion and her siblings found their lives rapidly expanding as they experienced new cultures, languages and customs with each move. Though they didn’t come from a musical background, Zion’s parents did appreciate artistic expression, and they encouraged their children to develop a love for the Arts, particularly – as in Zion’s case – music. She fell in love with the classic sounds of Miriam Makeba, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone, and lost herself in the contemporary music of Lokua Kanza, Asa, Jill Scott, Yolanda Adams and others. Influenced by such timeless artists over the years, Zion today has developed a musical style all her own, fusing traditional Gospel with Afro-jazz, Pop and R&B. Always seeking God through music, Zion’s utmost mission is to worship Him in all nations, and her diverse upbringing has allowed her to do just that. Not only does she write her own songs, but she does so fluently in English, French, Spanish and Swahili, making her music accessible to an international audience. Zion’s latest musical effort, an EP titled “He Is All Around”, is already generating a substantial buzz both on local and international fronts. The project provides new depth to the genre of gospel music, bridging the gap between traditional and contemporary Christian music with a rich and refreshing sound. Pick up your copy today!
