In March 2013 Bull Funk Zoo opened for Sting with all their original material played in front of an audience of 10,000 people and the response was incredible!!! The current band members of BFZ are: Assaad Lakkis-Guitar/ Band leader/ Composer, Hamdan Al-Abri - Vox, Elie Afif - Bass, Jeremiah John - Drums, Rami Lakkis - session bassist. The music played is going to be a funk, rock, reggae, dub collective, think a collaboration of The Meters, The Roots, Hendrix, James Brown and Bob Marley all wrapped up in a funk blanket… The founder/guitarist of Bull Funk Zoo, Assaad Lakkis, developed his talent for music in the US where he lived and worked for a number of years. During his time there, he played with practically every conceivable kind of musician and band. He continued his music journey in 2000 when he moved back to Dubai and was involved in projects like Abstrakt Collision, Stroobiya, Abstrakt Roots and performing as a session guitarist with various acts throughout his first 11 years back. Things started to get exciting again when he formed BFZ in 2011. The first showcase of the band was in collaboration with Hamdan Al-Abri. To open for Sade at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island, Bull Funk Zoo played Hamdan Al Abri’s music. The response was overwhelming! Sade personally said they were amazing and they were the best opening band she had had during her 2011 world tour! Now the first Bull Funk Zoo self titled album is out!! & it’s gonna blow your funkin' head off!!
