Born in Dublin city, Ireland, Mairéad's musical journey has taken her through many styles and to many places culminating at a crossroads where she is poised to take up her position with the great musical messengers of our time following the launch of the intoxicating Dawn Of Revelation. Singing since the age of three and classically trained soon after, her early days were focused on classical, jazz and folk. Emigrating to the US in 1994, and following a brief sojourn in St.Louis, Mairéad relocated to New York City. Instantly inspired by the passionate collision of Manhattan's musical textures Mairéad formed and fronted Too Cynical To Cry, a neo-bohemian pop collaboration with British songwriter Justin Robert James. After producing their album What Are You Afraid of? Too Cynical To Cry toured along side such luminaries as Van Morrison, Natalie Merchant, Elvis Costello, and Tracy Chapman, as well as on Sarah McLachlan's Lilith Fair Tour. In late 1999, Mairéad decided to disband Too Cynical To Cry, opting to focus on her solo material. Following a period of artistic transition, Mairead released her 2003 breakout solo debut recording Open The Door. Co-produced by the artist, the body of work exuded a significant leap in her song craft and artistic depth, garnering rave reviews and inspiring New York's Irish Voice to conclude "I find myself getting drunk on her sparkling spirit. Open The Door is a sweet concoction of folk dusted with Celtic mysticism, and abstract romance in the spirit of Van Morrison." Open The Door firmly established Mairéad as a leading voice of a new community of accomplished and successful artists inspiring a positive message through their music and saw her back on the road opening for Bob Dylan and two consecutive appearances at the renowned Glastonbury Festival, alongside Paul McCartney, Oasis and Radiohead among others. In 2003 Mairéad met Jim Goodwin (The Call, Sparks, John Cale) on a collaborative project called RISE, (a multi artist album created in the wake of September 11th). The musical connection was alchemic and within weeks they began working on her sophomore solo release. Dawn Of Revelation was recorded at Goodwin's Eggchair Studios in Hollywood, engineered and mixed by Chris Furhman (who learnt his trade with the great Daniel Lanois), and mastered by Sarah Register of the hot New York City mastering house, The Lodge. The collection represents the artist's true coming of age. Here, in the body of her strongest songs yet, lies the essence of an artist whose time has emerged. As a result of the creative communion between Goodwin and Mairéad, the album is a thing of true beauty, with contributions by a band of the very highest caliber including Goodwin, drummer and percussionist Robert Medici (David Bowie, Lou Reed, John Cale), bassist Hal Cragin (Iggy Pop, Rufus Wainright, They Might Be Giants, Sarah McLachlan), guitarists Phil Arriagada (Batlord, Fuzz Tones, John Ondrasik) and Phil X (Powder), and violinist Eric Gorfain (LA's premier string quartet, The Section). Rounding out this stellar collective is Mairéad's first producer and bastion of New York alternative pop culture, Jimi Zhivago (Norah Jones, Joseph Arthur, Rufus Wainwright, Olabelle). "Dawn is an album that is not afraid to deal with the complexity of issues that currently face us as individuals and a collective," says the artist. For certain, the songs contain a sparkling musical depth married with lyrics of integrity and clarity. From the deeply moving Storm Inside Your Heart, to the grooving See The Light and Change to the haunting Little Girl and naked It Was Love and Outside; the album offers a diversity and breadth that is both refreshing and captivating. All topped off with the monster tracks I Am Not Afraid, Carry The Sun and title track, the listener is taken on a multidimensional musical journey. One album highlight, Saviour, was picked up by German TV network, ZDF, as theme song for its hit TV dramedy, Sabine which Mairéad will follow with an acting appearance in not one but two scenes scripted especially for her, in the climax episodes of the show's highly anticipated second season. Mairéad's live performances have been captivating her fast growing audiences for some time now. Her return to touring in support of Dawn.., will ensure that captivation grows ever further as she ramps up for the brand new live show featuring her brand new LA based band.
