The Legend of Pottymouth About two years ago, I noticed that I had amassed five dirty songs over the many years that I have been a songwriter. I went to an open mic night in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and played the three worst ones all in a row and it went over big time. I decided to invent a persona named Pottymouth and set about the task of quickly writing another five songs that could reside under that umbrella. I began recording them in the New Hampshire seacoast area, and about halfway through the project, I got a job offer in Los Angeles and moved. Before I left, I hurriedly finished the guitar parts and the lead vocals, and left the project with my engineer, who added other instruments and vocals to the project. I began performing a combination dirty standup/dirty folksinger act under the name Pottymouth with some measure of success in Los Angeles, but I found that in pitching for shows, about eighty percent of the booking agents would hear the name of the act and say, “No thanks, we don’t do that here.” Pottymouth was not a vile, waterfall of profanity, but I didn’t get a chance to prove that, as I was hamstrung by the name. So, I killed Pottymouth. I decided to release the album under my name, which I have changed from Chris Elliott, the name I have gone by my entire life, to my full name, Christopher Dean Elliott, the name my mother used for me when my room was a mess. The chief reason for that is because a very talented fellow who is associated with comedy possesses my name and pretty much has first dibs on it, at least from a comedy branding perspective. And so there it is, Pottymouth by Christopher Dean Elliott is complete and available for purchase. I hope you fucking like it.
