“La Reina Peinandose” a CD containing 10 tracks Salsa Dura and fusion elements. This album was entirely composed by Alfred, mixed, arranged and produced by Chris Holder & Alfred Gomez Jr. Starting with El Vigilante Pacheco, a Son Montuno that refers satirically to the unfortunate encounters with vigilantes. Rosa, a song in Boogaloo Rhythm with Soul influences. Cobarde, where you can feel the thick legacy of Fania , the lyrics of Tite Curet Alonso and his influence on those that wish to make Salsa music. Abuela, a Guaguanco song dedicated to his grandmother that shows the complexity of human emotion and the way some people become the key to character building. Pa’ Beber, the album’s fifth track, with Dennis Leon on the piano, well known producer and arranger. Me Arrebata, Salsa Dura with electric guitars that give the song a little sense of Rock & Roll and avant-garde. Traicionera, in this track dominate Alfred’s Soneos and the Rhodes Solo that Chris Holder, pianist and co-producer of the album, marked on the song. El Malibu, another Boogaloo that tell the story of Benito, a character that comes to life in a classic ’76 Chevy Malibu. Buscando Olvidar, a song inspired on Ray Barreto’s acid from the album Acid. The journey ends with La Reina Peinandose, the tenth track of the album that closes 2 years of work, conceptualization and recording of this project.

Yet another interesting Venezuelan salsa project. These smart, stylish, uncluttered arrangements are the work of pianist-singer Alfred Gomez Jr. and Chris Holder, another pianist. The sound ventures beyond the boundaries of conventional salsa to include boogaloo influences ("Rosa"), pop ("Abuela") and other modern touches. Listen to the very contemporary Cuban feel of "Pa' Beber." This is world-savvy material that can swing, too. I like the use of the trombones and Rhodes organ on the old-school "Traicionera." With percussionist Luis Bermudez, trombonists Fernando Sanabria and Rolando Sanchez, many others. Highly Recommended.
