"The King of the Rockabilly blues" In 1995 Louis King and the Liars Klub released their debut self-titled album to critical acclaim and picked up 'Album of the Year' from Melbourne's Age Newspaper. The year also saw the band play support to legendary acts, Screaming J Hawkins and Buddy Guy as well as having their song "Werewolf Baby" nominated for a A.R.I.A. Award after being covered by Sydney personality Doug Mulray. In 1996 Louis King and combo continued making inroads by playing shows around the country including their first East Coast Blues Festival. With sales of their debut CD still going strong they decided to put off the release of their next album until the following year. Louis King and the Liars Klub released the follow up to their critically acclaimed first release last year. 'Hoodoo Man' received rave reviews and national airplay in its first few weeks of release. What started out as a predominantly blues act has now managed to cross over into the mainstream/commercial market because of the broad appeal 'Hoodoo Man' has. As TV Week's Jeff Jenkins said, "Hoodoo Man will be a favourite with blues aficionados, the cocktail set and people who just love a great groove". With Australia already recognising Louis King and the Liars Klub - King picked up Best New Male Artist at the Australian Blues Music Awards in '97 - the band have started making inroads into the US market, with a recent CD review in 'Blues Revue' and having the song "Lonesome for Long" featured in a forthcoming US movie. 1998 Extensive touring throughout australia including as featured opening act for BB King After a self imposed Hiatus Louis's 3rd CD "Sharp Like A Bowling Ball" was released in early March 2003 and contained 10 new original tracks with a stated aim of making the "blues party album of the year". Louis is performing extensively again throughoiut the country and oveseas with his current lineup, which see's Louis playing his trusty Stratocaster with Co Tipping ...Guitar (Steve boyd and the Preachers ,Lowriders, Russell Morris) Trevor Reading ....Bass (Runners, Russell Morris) Scotty Martin ..Drums(Steve boyd and the Preachers ,Rubes,No Nonsense) Louis King is a dynamic stage performer who has been described as -"The greatest front man since Ghengis Kahn"(Melb Sun Herald) and as "coming out on stage Like a Haggis from Hell"(Bris.on the street) King has performed at most of the biggest festivals in the country as well as being chosen to open for Buddy Guy , B.B. King & Jimmie Vaughan. in Australia. One taste of his Hi Intensity live show will leave you in no doubt as to why....... Louis' Story on this album TB 803 "Sharp ....Like A Bowlin' Ball" I always loved certain albums that you could put on at a party and do the "I won't spill my Beer " dance,I guess this is my attempt to make one.It starts out flat out and just kinda speeds up!.All of the song are pretty self explanatory except to say that "Creaky old Bed was written in a bottom bunk in a Byron Bay Hostel (Philthy was above) during a pretty hectic tour and is a cry for help (or more Rum!!).The album took a long time to record due to becoming a father and just sheer laziness..Well I s'pose better late than never!. We kept the gaps between songs real short and recorded it loud and that is the way it should be listened to. The Drinks Bill for this CD was greater than the Tape Costs...............Get the picture?. TB802 "Hoodoo Man Well after the first CD and about10 tours i started to plan No 2.This time Co and Phil coudn't spare the time so the Live band was dragged into the studio. Shane Ryall,Simon Burke,Ben Grayson and Dean Addison started the Rythm tracks with Phil North,taking over the electric bass songs.Co Tipping guested with Bruce Sandell,Simon Martin,Dean Hillson,Trevor Reading,and Garrett Costigan put 2 Ripping pieces of Pedal Steel on 2 tracks.The Album was Recorded at the new atlantis studios in the Hottest summer that we had had for years,combined with power cuts that meant that the air conditioning had to be turned off, meant that most of the Rythm parts were laid down by men in their underwear,which I think it gives it a funkier feel.I tried to putdown some of the slower R'N'B songs that I had written in the previous year or so.After we had finished and I set about culling the songs down to 10 or soThe band made the decision that they all should stay (although a couple of what I thought were good ideas got the hatchet).Sweet Lottie May was sort of recorded as a joke (complete with fake accordion) ,to have a poke at melbourne Journalist Glenn Nelson (higway 49), who asked me why I hadn't written any cajun songs. It ended up getting airplay and was picked up and recorded by Rockin' Doopsie Jnr!!. Go Figure.......
