J. Hawkins is an up and coming hip hop artist who has developed a style that has been able to break the invisible barriers within Hip Hop on what’s considered East Coast and Down South music. Unlike most rappers of this era who come out sounding like whoever’s hot at the moment, he has a unique style of his own. His music creates a vivid image of the streets and at times can also be very soulful. It seems to fill a void in the rap world. Born in Hartford, Connecticut raised in Georgetown, South Carolina, J. Hawkins never took music seriously until his early 20’s. He explains, “I used to smoke w**d and rap in ciphers with friends while we stood on the block. Doing something with music never really crossed my mind until I started realizing I was better than most people in the industry. And it seems as if there’s only a few real niggas left in the game.” The relentless, go-getter, hustler attitude that J. Hawkins has should take him very far in the industry.
