This project was an experiment in both music composition and audio-visual production based on random selection of creation steps. The rules for creation were determined in abstract of the actual music, and based on the throwing of dice, where depending on what parameter (length of note. what inversion, or retrograde, time-lapse between photos, etc) was being written at the time. Full details of these instructions are available on my website. A 12-tone grid was produced, based on a session of dice rolling and grid parameter selection. Then each loop of the grid was created by the actual meter, note selection and rhythm being created in another dice rolling session. Then the rules for the imagery - what time of day to shoot, how frequently to change channels, how many channels to advance, etc., was done in a third dice rolling session. I'm fairly confident there was some red wine consumed during all that too. A frequent collaborator of mine at the time (mid 90's), David Diebold and his wife Emily Diebold, was very supportive as we were bouncing lots of video and music ideas off each other in those days. They opened their home to me to use there TV to shoot the pictures for the multimedia portion of the project, which can also be found on my site somewhere. Thanks David! Thanks Emily!
