The embarkment of new record label ‘Current’, which aspires to nurture upcoming talent, will begin with ‘Ain’t Wasting No Time’ a new single from the label's initiators themselves, the R1 Ryders featuring songstress Carly Bond. In 2012, through innovative new projects including Current, the Ryders are continuing to push globally their hybrid UK underground sound which they have labelled Funkitek, becoming more and more visible within the electronic dance music scene and beyond. Although based on house rhythms, R1 Ryders' productions are loaded with the diverse musicality of jungle and garage, the sounds which have continually influenced them throughout their London upbringing. Consisting of producer Karnak and MC Skeelo, the duo’s working relationship has flourished, with them placing their own spin on dance music in a string of raw gems such as ‘Rubberband’, ‘Ricochet’ and ‘Hydraulic’ – which have gained support from leaders of the scene such as Mary Anne Hobbs, Benji B, MistaJam, Ikonika and Sinden. With ‘Ain’t Wasting No Time’ the high octane musical forces of the R1 Ryders and Carly Bond have created a sure hit for the ladies, which explores notions of getting your groove back after a broken heart. The autobiographical aspects of Carly’s lyrics are easily accessible whilst fitting perfectly alongside the R1 Ryders unique and melodic grooves. Carly Bond is the talented vocalist behind the hit single 'Not Wise', which reached number one in the independent Garage charts in 2004, and 'My Life' in which she collaborated with Grime legend MC Purple in 2006. Both of these saw Carly giving live performances of for BBC 1xtra and Lovebox. Her deep-rooted vocal talent, which has been steadily growing from a very young age, shines through in this forthcoming upbeat 'Funkitek' number. The EP is perfectly completed with a bass-heavy remix by London newcomer Jazzy Jazzy, a tribal funk mix from Mellow Bee and bumping garage rework from LDN Underground.
