Dedicated to her Mother. Marimba solo Mika Mimura was born in Osaka, Japan. She began to play marimba when she was 6 years old and continued classical studies at the prestigious Osaka College of Music. After completing her Master’s degree at the college, she was inspired by the great jazz pianist Makoto Ozone and began studying jazz vibraphone. She was accepted into the world-renowned Berklee College of Music where she studied with Dave Samuels, Ed Saindon, Tiger Okoshi, and Ed Tomassi among others. During her time in Boston, Mika became a regular member of Phil Wilson's Rainbow Big Band and Rainbow All Stars, performed with jazz great Greg Osby, appeared in concert at Los Angeles’ Kodak Theater, and joined "The BandA ecLectics" led by Petros Sakelliou, winner of the first prize at Thelonious Monk Institute Composition Competition. She exhibits a contagious energy in performance and brings precision and creativity to her compositions and arrangements, be it classical or jazz. Since moving to New York City in 2007, Mika has maintained a busy concert schedule throughout the northeast.
