William Shatner - slightly too old and overweight to be a space hero, but did that stop him driving a massive space ship and getting frisky with green alien women? No. So what better role model for a bunch of experienced space-popsters? WOW SIGNALS is Shatner's third album. The first two, ENERGISE (2004) and THIRTEEN O'CLOCK (2008) were spectacularly well received by reviewers and gained the band a solid reputation, notably for the classic British guitar punk/indie/pop songwriting of ship captain Jim Bower. While ENERGISE was mainly recorded in a bedroom, THIRTEEN O'CLOCK was a far more lavish and expensive production. Reviews said things like: "Insanely catchy, densely packed, seamless pop perfection is the aim: and of the 13 songs not one misses by more than a whisker. At every level and in every department it's a classic." Whisperin and Hollerin (10/10) “A spirited, effervescent and truly enticing piece of work...genius.” contactmusic.com “Blackly humorous, witty, catchy, genuinely inventive, and cleverer than the Kaiser Chiefs” tasty fanzine "Stonkingly good....should stride the Earth with utter confidence" subba-cultcha.com The band are not afraid to tackle big themes; while THIRTEEN O'CLOCK was essentially about time, WOW SIGNALS is about space... not just the big black infinite thing in the sky, but the space between us and how we connect to eachother and the universe, and so forth, etcetera. If that sounds pretentious don't worry, it kicks a** and it has a few jokes in it too. The album was recorded with James Kenosha, whose credits include working with Pulled Apart By Horses, Dry the River, Marmozets, Carl Barât, Mikky Ekko and Dinosaur Pile-Up. It was mastered by Tom Woodhead, out of Forward Russia.
