简介
by Kenyon HopkinSeveral bands have been able to emulate the sound of the Smiths and put their own twist on it, while others just sound like a shabby imitation of the influential band. Starlet falls somewhere in between on When Sun Falls on My Feet. At times, Jonas Färm sounds like he's straining to be Morrissey, with all the lyrical prose along for the ride. The band has its heart in the right place, but it's lacking the passion or songwriting to go with it. The acoustic numbers, such as "Make That Stone Beat Like a Heart Again" and "To Sleep This Evil Day Away," come across most strikingly and genuine, though the distorted guitar in "Malmö" is a little too much for a Swedish indie pop band singing innocently about loss and love. Still, you can't help but sigh to such lovey-dovey lyrics as "I can fall into her arms and rest my head."
