This work was originally intended for a double-manual harpsichord. Some of the variations are indicated to be played using two keyboards, obviously not available on a single piano keyboard. Therefore, those variations have been freely arranged to accommodate the single keyboard. The music of Bach lends itself freely to re-arranging and has been done by such luminaries as Lizst, Busoni, Ormandy and more. The advantage to re-arranging some of the variations means that more players have access to playing this music. What may have previously been somewhat of an athletic challenge has been arranged so that musicality may take priority. My original transcriptions will be available through my web site.
