Here’s my new song, called “Tug of War”. The theme of this song is one with which I have grappled for most of my life. So many struggles in a woman’s life that cause pain- trying to succeed on one’s own terms in a man’s world, the tug of war between the individual and society, or, at the personal level, emerging whole from a toxic relationship.

Having been raised in a traditional Asian family in the cold northeast of China, with that constant demand to be perfect in everything can often feel like an invisible hand pressing on one’s chest, making it so hard to breathe freely. Expressing myself in my music, my erhu, my voice, gives me the strength to keep moving forward. I hope that after hearing my song you will feel similarly emboldened.
