That is what music has done for me, and that is why I sing." - Jill King Jill King grew up in the northern Alabama farming town of Arab, singing in the church her grandfather helped build, brick by brick, and listening to the Country Music Countdown on Sunday afternoons, dreaming of the day her song would make it to the 1 slot. Soon after Jill packed up and moved to Nashville, she quickly caught the ear of music publishers. She signed with Gate to Gate Publishing and began writing songs as well as performing around town everywhere she could, from the Bluebird to Tootsies Orchid Lounge. Her musical family tree is rooted in the fertile soil of traditional country music greats from Hank Williams Sr. to Patsy Cline, with branches reaching in every direction from U2 to Shawn Colvin, to Annie Lennox, and Ray Lamontagne. The key ingredients are lyrical provocation and musical integrity. Jill's first album, Jillbilly, distributed through Compendia on Blue Diamond Records in 2003, received critical acclaim and award-winning status. Over the next 2 years and 80,000 miles, Jill placed her breakout single "One Mississippi" on the Billboard, R&R, and Music Row charts, and her video in medium rotation at GAC. All of her singles have reached 23 or higher on Music Row, with "98.6" reaching 10 on Music Row, 45 on R&R, and 53 on Billboard. She has performed for thousands of country music fans all over the country, as well as France, Sweden and Japan. She has shared the stage with Big & Rich, Daryl Worley, Blue County, Shannon Lawson, Marty Stuart and Randy Travis, and made her captivating debut on the stage of the mother church of country music, "The Grand Old Opry". She was named Music Row Magazine's "2004 Independent Breakout Artist of the Year". Today, for Jill, it's still about the music. She can bring back-porch intimacy to capacity crowds and big stage entertainment to back-porch get-togethers. Still enjoying the creative freedom of being an independent artist, Jill co-produced her sophomore album, Somebody New, with the incredibly talented A-list engineer Derek Bason and has set a release date for early 2008.
