Bridget Bradshaw and Dick Jonas represent two different generations separated by 47 years. Bridget does not have the corporate memory to construct combat yarns about the Vietnam War; it happened long before she was even a gleam in anybody’s eye. And she never had to dine each evening to the six o’clock news laced with Vietnam battlefield gore. By the same token, Dick could never write a song about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder — reference Take a Stand, cut 11 on this album. PTSD in the two World Wars, in Korea and in Vietnam was called ‘combat fatigue’. The songs on this album illustrate the changes which evolve in the psyche of the warrior from one generation to the next — both in actuality and in the articulation thereof. It’s not just the combat; it’s the aftermath, too, where the warrior is driven to reflect upon himself and what he has become.

Jake Brooks is a Nashville, Tennessee, songwriter with a keen perception of where the American common man finds himself today. You’ll find in Red, White and Blue and Old Farts Jake’s convictions about the heart and soul of American tradition.

Two of Dick’s songs, Bill Kirk and Whiskey Bill were written decades ago, commemorating two of the finest military commanders he ever served under. At this writing, both men are still alive. Fighter pilots are hard to kill.
