by Alex HendersonWith 1993's Let's Set The Record Straight, 1994's Forbidden Zone and 1995's From the Street, Tom Coster was hell-bent for fusion -- he came across as someone who was determined to make exactly the kind of music he wanted, and if that meant little or no airplay on NAC radio, so be it. But when From Me to You was recorded in 1990, the keyboardist was still recording commercial projects that favored pop-jazz/crossover over fusion. Ranging from crossover instrumentals to pop/R&B vocals, this CD isn't a gem but isn't devoid of integrity either. Some of the album's more noteworthy instrumentals include the funky "Mr. Peraza," the playful "Crusin' for a Brusin'" and a lush remake of Santana's "Europa," which Coster had first embraced when he was a member of that band in the '70s. Originally released on Headfirst, From Me to You was reissued by JVC a few years later.
