by Ned RaggettJapanese DJ KZA has the kind of "everything goes" spirit that's often been attributed to any number of his countrymen when it comes to interpreting music from all over the world, if the track-by-track variety of Dig and Edit can be taken as a general sign. While his compositions are for the most part fairly straightforward in terms of establishing a mood and pace and then maintaining it, he does so with easy grace throughout, and the horn-driven punch of "Aneugalam" is much removed from the exultant Moroder electro of "Gothenergy" (easily the best song title on the album) and the steady four-to-the-floor punch and sweet piano melody of "Communication Satellite." There's even what could be a Cocteau Twins circa 1993 gone dance tribute with "Transaction," thanks to the liquid flow of the lead guitar line set against a serviceable rhythm surrounded by swooping drones. A "slow" version of "Open Up" concludes this enjoyable effort.
