After a 3 year hiatus, the electronic trio Skandalon re-emerges with Subluxation, its 2nd full length release. As on Cause & Cure (2004), Subluxation fuses the organic and the ethereal to produce electronic music that feels 'composed’ instead of 'cut & pasted'. Subluxation offers 12 sample heavy tracks with floating voices, menacing beats, and distorted melodies that have become the hallmark of Skandalon. ‘Studiohead’ is the luxuriant single, featuring a bassy, mangled kick drum and a blip-ish melody you’ll not soon forget. The ‘Trash’d Remix’ of Studiohead is equally compelling, and thematic of the entire work. ‘UnTrickable’ is a raucous romp of drumloops & spoken-word samples, hearkening back to the efforts of Jack Dangers & Meat Beat Manifesto. Also take note of ‘Intraference’, the anthemic dirge with a memorable 80’s-style synth solo, and 'Drains', a dramatic three-part composition reminiscent of Tear Garden, In The Nursery, or even Vangelis.
