Contrary to its title, Essential isn't the definitive Alabama collection. The 16-track collection does contain its share of great songs ? "Mountain Music," "You've Got the Touch," "I Showed Her" ? but it's too short and contains too many album tracks to be truly definitive. Nevertheless, it's a nice sampler, even if it isn't a good introduction.
