Jef Chandler is a singer/songwriter from South Carolina. He has released five CD's, three solo efforts, one with the band The Bad Popes and one with Big Brown Bowl. His music has found radio airplay in the US and Europe. An eclectic writer, Chandler composes music that is a blend of roots rock, country, the blues, and more. Mike Miller of The State newspaper in Columbia, SC describes Chandler's songs as "exquisite stories told with a clarity of insight and a wry sense of humor."

The album Talking Out the Fire was released in 1999. Recorded at the Jam Room in Columbia, SC, the album features many memorable performances by some of Upstate South Carolina's finest musicians, including Larry Hoskinson, Matt Morgan, Kevin Latham, Jeff Hook, and many more. Songs on the album range from rock anthems (Moonwriting) to bluegrass influenced tracks (Car), to bar-room straight up rock and roll (Freedom).
