Do you know what Bossa Nova is? What songs come to mind when you think back to the early 90’s? When you figure this out you have Da Nova. Drawing on the seductive power of the beats of Bossa Nova and the catchy melodies from early 90’s Eurobeat, Kleyton Macedo and Øyvind Aamli have merged the two styles and have created brand new versions of songs including Rhythm of the Night, Please Don’t Go, Groove is in the Heart, Killer and All that She Wants. After 20 years playing drums with a wide spectrum of artists from the carnival parades in Rio’s schools of samba (Uniao da Ilha, Portela and Grande Rio), to Brazilian Pop (including Seu Jorge and Beth Carvalho) to Bossa Nova’s Carlos Lyra, Marcos Valle and Eliana Pittman, Kleyton Macedo has chosen to start his new journey in production and Da Nova is his first undertaking. The Brazilian drummer and composer grew up in Rio de Janeiro, next to Copacabana Beach and now uses his knowledge of samba and Bossa Nova to create his own sound. To make this happen he brought on board Norwegian producer/engineer and songwriter Øyvind Aamli. Having lived in London for the last 10 years, Øyvind has worked with people like Kylie Minogue, Lou Rhodes (Lamb), Athlete, Boy George and Snow Patrol, and in the last 4 years he also worked with Brazilian artists including Ivete Sanglao, Daniella Mercury, Martinalha, Simoninha, Seu Jorge and Monobloco in London’s largest Brazilian music venue, Guanabara. In the autumn of 2008 Kleyton and Øyvind got together with Gustavo Marques, Gili Lopes and Kita Steuer in Stella Polaris studios in North London. There they tapped into all the musician’s knowledge of Brazilian music to re-arrange and record the songs that now are Da Nova. Vocals were laid down having carefully decided what voice would give each song the most integrity. They were lucky to be able to use the vocals from artists like Heidi Vogel (singer for Cinematic Orchestra and many others), Xan Blacq artist as well as keyboard player for Amy Winehouse, Jandira Silva from the Jose Cabeleira Band and Kat Starr Johnson, the unique vocalist from New York. Piano and Trombone was later used to reintroduce some of the most famous melodies and to give the whole product the finishing touches. 'Our Bossa' is a beautiful album which is perfect for any season whether chilling by the beach on a beautiful summer's day or relaxing at home on a cold winter's day. The amazing new interpretations of some of the biggest dance hits from the 90s will astound and delight you in equal measure!
