As a songwriter and performer, Liam Griffin has built his reputation on three pillars of strength – honesty, melody, and finesse. His lyrics often reveal true emotion and intellect, while painting pictures of the world around us in full high definition color, with a heart-on-the-sleeve honesty and poetic sensibility. This is complimented by the hook-laden melodies sung by Liam’s incomparable vocal clarity and rich vocal overtones. Add to this, the dynamic orchestrations of Liam’s trademark trumpet, alongside piano, electric guitar, and percussion, and you’ve got yourself a cacophony of organically made sounds with a hint of grit and a touch of finesse. His latest album JAMBEROO is an acoustic guitar driven recording, with its roots planted in the folk singer genre, along with tinges of pop, country and rock. The album’s lyrical themes cover the challenges of love and relationships, grief and separation, while set on a backdrop of the Australian landscape. Jamberoo is the name of the property Liam Griffin recorded the album on, in a loft space above a garage, and the word comes from an indigenous language meaning “the long and winding road.” If we trace back through the musical experiences of Liam Griffin, it is not hard to see how this songwriter has come to produce such music. From the age of four, Liam was playing the violin, under the guidance of his mother, who shared his musical interests as a classical pianist and choral singer. At the age of eleven, after witnessing James Morrison blow the roof of a concert hall with his trumpet, Liam took up the instrument at a staggering rate. He played trumpet in school ensembles throughout his primary & high school years, which exposed him to music of all sorts – classical, contemporary, pop, blues, and jazz. Then, at the age of thirteen, the guitar struck Liam, almost literally, while blaring out of the speakers from the alternative rock records of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Silverchair. Add to this, his fathers tape collection of America, Joe Cocker, and Pink Floyd. And so began his love for songwriting. Throughout his career, Liam has accrued much praise for his songwriting and performance abilities, his most recent achievement being placed in the International Songwriting Competition Folk Singer-Songwriter Category with his track Glow For You. In 2011, lead single from the BETWEEN THE COLOURS album, A Distant Memory, received a nomination in the finals of the Queensland Music Awards Pop Category 2011. The song featured in many radio playlists during 2011, including FBi (Sydney), 4ZZZ (Brisbane), 3RRR & PBS (Melbourne), plus a host of internet radio stations worldwide. Liam also had songs placed in the Top 10 of the QSONG Awards 2009 & 2007. One of which, Until You Fall, was placed in the American TV program “Epic Conditions.”
