简介
Belle-Skinner aka Maria Brosgol is an upstate New York singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer. After studying classical voice for several years and learning (mostly Sufjan Stevens and Iron & Wine) covers in her college dormroom, she was encouraged by her music teacher to secretly record a demo of her own songs in an empty classroom on weekends. Based on this work she was awarded a Maguire Fellowship in 2013 to study music production at BIMM (then known as Tech Music School) in London. There she recorded her first EP titled Operator, which was released in August 2015. Coming back from London she spent several months traveling to the West Coast (L.A., San Francisco, Portland) and New Jersey, writing new material for her next album and honing her recording technique. Themes of loss, regret, longing and unrequited love permeate the record - along with stories of doppelgangers, death omens, mysterious sirens and deserted landscapes. She has opened for acts such as Saint Saviour and Bill Ryder-Jones at the Roundhouse Theatre in London, Sean Rowe at WCPH in Albany, NY, and the Winterpills at the Linda Performing Arts Center. She was also a finalist at the Telluride Troubadour Competition in June 2015; a showcasing songwriter on the main-stage at Rocky Mountain Folks Festival in Lyons, CO last summer; a semi-finalist in The 2015 Great American Songwriting Contest; a finalist in July 2016’s SolarFest Songwriter Showcase; and in August 2016 a showcasing artist at MusikFest, the country’s largest free music festival. For the past year she has been working on self-producing her second EP, titled We Shut Our Eyes - which was released in November 2016. She currently lives in NYC.
