The first King Kora album intoducing their urban griot style: the seed of Westafrican kora music grown by both Westafrican and Swiss musicians in multikulty Zurich. Recorded in 2001 by the founding members of the band (Lamin Jobarteh, Roger Greipl, Marco Sigrist and Jean-Claude Torko) and sound engineer/co-producer Dan Suter in an Swiss alpine hut that they had transformed into a sleek hightech studio. After its release in 2002 it reached the top 10 of the World Music Charts Europe. Funkhaus Europe Cologne, Radio Multikulti Berlin and DRS 3 (Switzerland) declared it CD of the week. The magazine Rolling Stone loved it (4 stars) With the guests Gran Purismo rapping on JOKO and Chérif Mbaw singing on a rearrangement of the great griot traditional BALAKE.
