简介
Daughter & Son’s self-titled debut EP explores the dark underbelly of love; the secret truth behind a forbidden love affair. The EP begins with love’s initial spark and ends with its inevitable demise. It is the story of a love that could not, and should not, be. This quietly intimate six-song cycle is sung almost entirely in two-part harmony and utilizes only acoustic and electric guitars and piano. With straightforward, simple melodies that speak directly to the heart, this EP incorporates elements of singer/songwriter, country, and indie rock, while retaining a personality all its own. In 2008, singer/songwriters Jody Shelton and Mighty Kate were brought together by their managers for a series of shows in New York City. Their passionate performances, instrumental prowess and powerhouse voices made them a natural match. With 5 solo records between them and a major release each in 2010, the pair decided to join forces to tour around the country in support of their new albums. As the tour progressed, their friendship and musical kinship blossomed. Instead of simply opening for one another, they began to sit in on each other’s sets, which was the highlight of the evening for both audience members and the duo alike. By the time they returned to New York, it was clear that a new partnership had been born. In January of 2011, Kate originated the role of Song Woman in the Lincoln Center production of War Horse on Broadway. At the same time, Jody was busy musical directing shows in New York and around the country, including the improvised musical Baby Wants Candy at Soho Playhouse. The two were determined to record their debut album, despite their busy schedules, but were without the resources to do so. Thanks to the generosity and studio wizardry of guitarist/engineer Oscar Albis Rodriguez, the album came to life in the cozy confines of Oscar’s home studio in Brooklyn. Within only a few sessions, it became clear that the combination of the three musicians was indeed something magical. It was at this point in the recording process that Daughter & Son was born. Daughter & Son made their official New York debut at Rockwood Music Hall in late 2012 and will release their first EP in spring, 2013. The trio is now writing together and has already begun pre-production for Daughter & Son Volume 2. They plan to hit the ground running, touring around the world in 2013-14.
