Josh Yeoh's debut album Is Anyone Out There? collects some of the best of the many songs he has written over the years. The eleven tracks offer a glimpse into what Josh has learned during his most intimate times with God, ultimately answering the title question with a resounding "Yes!" Musically, it is a deliciously eclectic album, balancing electric guitar-driven tracks like "My Help" with fun jazzy ones like "Learning to Fall" and the delicate and pure combination of piano and cello on "Offering of Love". Josh, as musician extraordinaire, plays acoustic guitar, piano, and keys, along with singing (you can even catch him as his own background vocals in a couple tracks). He is also joined by talented musicians on electric guitar, percussion, cello, and female vocals. Each track is composed with great care, and many of the melodies stick far past the point when the CD stops playing. Lyrically, Josh is incredibly honest, presenting many of the struggles he's been through and giving all the glory to God for being faithfully with him every step of the way. In "Tomorrow's Gonna Be OK," he sings, "Don't need to worry about my future/'Cause in looking at my past/I see Your faithfulness surround me/And I know tomorrow's gonna be OK". The message of hope in God permeates the album, which has encouraged me through many of my own "wilderness" times by bringing me to a place of joy, knowing that I am a beloved daughter of a powerful, loving, faithful, and holy God. The album shines in a way that few CD's these days do. However, it isn't just Josh that it highlights, but rather it points straight to God. -- Album Review by Kristen Miller ---------------------------------- Josh Yeoh is a Christian singer and songwriter from Malaysia whose heart is to see a generation crying out for purpose be reached through music. Josh’s debut album, Is Anyone Out There, is an expression of this desire. Featuring 11 original songs written over the course of the past five years in Josh’s adopted home of Northfield, MN, this project introduces listeners to Josh’s original sounds, from intimate piano-driven melodies to rock anthems and smooth jazz. Josh’s love affair with all styles of music began early on in his life. When he was two, after small group meetings at his parents’ home, Josh would plonk the melody of worship choruses on their little electronic keyboard. Much of his music education was from growing up in church: Josh played on the kids, youth, and finally, at age 12, the adult worship teams. Josh started leading worship at age 15 and soon after began writing worship songs for his home church congregation in Malaysia. The college years saw Josh traveling halfway across the world to the town of ‘cows, colleges and contentment’ to pursue a degree in Psychology and Cross-Cultural Studies at Carleton College. The people and experiences he encountered during the four years in Northfield would ultimately influence the style and content of his songs. While recording a CD of his own has been one of Josh’s dreams for a while, it wasn’t until the year after his graduation that doors began to open. A few months, 11 tracks, and a couple thousand dollars later, he is elated to present to you his debut project: Is Anyone Out There.
