Tragedy, excess and enduring love are all set to an electro beat on Seanario’s debut full length, Resorts, with Las Vegas as the backdrop. Seanario is the brainchild Sean Duncan, a California indie rock veteran, whose career includes a stint in Fiver that took him on tour with Death Cab For Cutie. More recently, Duncan has been fronting Kid Mud and running an independent record label, Way Grimace Records. Seanario provides Duncan with the opportunity to explore his electronic interests. While previously drawing comparisons to Ween, Grandaddy and Rogue Wave, Resorts reflects the influence of Daft Punk and LCD Soundsystem. For Repairs, Duncan handled all production, songwriting, and instrumentation. “Pretty kick a** batch of song shaped frequencies.... We"ll have to schedule a future arpeggio duel on main street!” –Jason Lytle (Grandaddy) While getting married in Vegas in 2011, Duncan (a bit of an armchair historian) became fascinated with the MGM Grand fire of 1980 which killed 85 people. “I was reading the fire report, which is huge, and I just became obsessed because there are so many stories there,” Duncan says. For the album, Duncan tried to put himself in the shoes of guests who met their tragic ends in the fire while also capturing the essence of Vegas in the early 1980s. The 15 songs represent a 3-day period, which culminates in the fire. Like those who visit and populate Vegas, the Resorts presents a vast array of characters – from an elderly couple to a dancer with a drug problem.
