Sunrunner has been called Heavy Prog by their peers for many reasons. They are not quite prog metal as their technical approach is more subtle. The production of the band is a bit softer as well, using mostly analog recording to achieve a more 70's/ 80's sound. There is a consistent argument among fans if Sunrunner is a heavy metal band or a hard rock band as their style and songs have a broad reach. Sometimes even drawing from folk instruments as enhancements. Either way, it is apparent the major influences of the band are Black Sabbath, Rush and Iron Maiden. Sometimes, one can hear the influence of doom or power metal beneath the warm analog sound. Hence the term Heavy Prog has been used as a label. Not quite metal to today's standards, and not as technical as today's prog. But both of those elements are the major basis of Sunrunner's music.
