The Prowl is Ben Patterson's first release as a leader. With this recording, we get a look, not only at Patterson's trombone prowess, but his composing and arranging talents also. Six of the nine tunes presented here are Ben Patterson originals, and saxophonist Jeff Antoniuk makes a musical offering with his beautiful "Mother's Day." Rounding out the session are two standards: a sextet arrangement of Patterson's re-harmonization of the lovely ballad "If Ever I Would Leave You," and a fast-burning, take-no-prisoners quartet version of "Cherokee."

The ensemble is comprised of some of the Washington, D.C. area's top musicians, several coming from the USAF Airmen of Note and the Army Blues.
