Inside Joke is back with his third offering entitled, Home Life, and the inventor of “Joke-Hop” (satirical and spiritual hip-hop) offers up 16 tasty treats that cover the gamut of subject matter, but in the end stick pretty close to “home.” Here is what Inside Joke has to say about each of the songs: Autobiographical This is the quintessential “Joke-Hop” track—satirical and spiritual and something that you can groove too. The last verse tells of a true story that happened when in the process of finishing this song. Inside Joke House Party (feat. Coo Coo) Inspired by a party a friend threw for me right after college, this song is intended to inspire people to keep the party rolling regardless of age. I know Cassius Clay, Double Deez, and I are! He’s A Rascal After a couple of years of having a musical dry spell, I was watching the kids one night and I proposed we write a song about Beau (the youngest at the time). The kids and I put this together in one night. Big props to Little G Lewis, Emma, and Kendall for helping contribute to its formation and of course Beau for all the material and guest appearance on the track. Butt Paste (feat. Daddy J) This is a song I’ve had in the works for the past eight years and it finally came together for this album. Ever since discovering “Butt Paste” I’ve been fascinated by the product—largely due the “other uses” that the box claims. The absurd thought of a mom rubbing this on baby then using the same product on her husband for some of his ailments was all the inspiration I needed to stick with this song over the years. I offer big props to Daddy J for helping bring it all together. Chester (feat. Kevin Schuer) Cassius, Double Deez and I are huge “Kentucky Sports Radio” fans. Ever since we heard “Chester” call in on their show, we have been huge fans of his as well. Growing up in his neck of the woods, we have a great appreciation for the way he thinks about life and the Wildcats. Over the past year or so, we’ve kept good record of some of his calls with the hopes of putting a tribute song together. Here it is! Hands In The Air This is an attempt to put together a praise song Inside Joke style. It’s probably my favorite song on this album. Other than the explosion, it’s Joke-like, but reflects my desire to praise God with my entire being and with others in His family. Fortune Cookie Theology (feat. Daddy J) This song documents the true experience Lady K and myself had last May on our anniversary and the continual inspiration we receive from the fortune cookie we collected on this special occasion. The “fortune,” which read “If you want to win at anything: a race, yourself, or your life – you have to go a little berserk,” turns out to be fitting for our family and the world today. May it inspire you to win in life… Mega House Church For the past two years, when not making d**e rhymes, I’ve been encouraging simple/organic or “house” church multiplication. Every day I seek to share the vision of simple church with others seeking to follow Jesus outside the traditional church structures. This journey encompasses the exact opposite of everything this song suggests. Big props to my friends Tony and Felicity Dale as well as Neil Cole for helping me to see many of the truths hidden beneath the satire found in this song. Buck Buck on Da Buck There is really nothing more to say here other than there is a tremendous lack of hype music for guys heading out to hunt big game, namely bucks. This song fills that void. Teater Totter (feat. Cassius Clay) Josh Teater, native Kentuckian and PGA tour member, is famous for doing his signature dance the “Teater Totter” on tee boxes and greens at PGA Tour events. Wait… he hasn’t actually started doing it yet, but you can expect him to start now that this song has be released. He will become famous for it in no time flat. Be on the lookout! Kickin It Homeschool This is a tribute song to my wife and kids and all the families involved in Classical Conversations—a national homeschooling cooperative. There can never be too many rap songs for classical homeschooling families… In The Zone This song was inspired by the FCA Camp Theme “In The Zone.” The song speaks of “the zone” we can live in when having Christ’s power, mentioned in Ephesians 3, to guide us. Pushing Wood This is my first rap/rock song. To pull it off, I teamed up with the up-and-coming rock group, Identity Crises. This song expresses my passion for skateboarding. Lights On My House This Christmas song really needs no explanation. I have lights on my house and for good reason! BONUS: The Turtleman Rap (Turtle Heist Mix) This beat sounded like it would make a great soundtrack to a bank robbery. It made me think about the Turtleman out there snatching turtles so I put the two together. Something about it just worked for me (and hopefully for you,) so I wanted to share it. BONUS: Hands In The Air (Dubsteppin’ Through The Gates Mix) I thought the music to this remix sounded otherworldly and actually provided a sound that went well with the lyrics.
