Stefan Dixon - For An Apparent Reason Stefan Dixon is an enigma. His soulful, insightful lyrics are infused with a musical gift so profound that it borders on genius. And now, South Africans are allowed a deeper look into his brooding soul with the release of his debut album, For No Apparent Reason. Cape Town, born and bred singer/songwriter Stefan Dixon is quickly becoming one of South Africa’s most accomplished entertainers. 2013 has seen Stefan Grace the stages of almost all of South Africa’s top music festivals and his first two singles being released under critical acclaim through Universal Music South Africa, has enjoyed much deserved airplay across all radio stations throughout Mzansi. He got his first break in 2002 as a support act for the critically acclaimed Henry Ate. One of Dixon’s classmates was the manager for Henry Ate at that point in time, and she introduced him to the band. He was a fan, so he became a roadie…until one fateful night when they were without an opening act. Enter a young and terrified Dixon – who proceeded to open the show. This impromptu gig was followed by performances at the Oppikoppi Easter Show and with the internationally recognised bands Tidal Waves and Stealing Love Jones. In 2005, Stefan collaborated with Tidal Waves’ Jacob “Zakes” Wulana at the main Oppikoppi Wired Festival for a number of gigs. He still lists this as one of his career highlights. The rest, as they say is history. Dixon has been living the life of a musician – playing gigs all over the country, slowly emerging as one of the most prolific singer-songwriters on the South African music scene today. With the release of his album, For No Apparent Reason, Dixon hopes to find an audience that relates to his melodic rock tunes and emotive lyrics. The title of the album has been travelling with Dixon for several years now… and not for no apparent reason. It alludes to his recurring theme of making sense out of his journey – “I can’t count the amount of times where I've felt that whatever I'm doing just doesn't make sense. But the more I gig, the more I'm on the road, the clearer it all gets. I only doubt myself once or twice monthly these days. It used to be a daily occurrence,” he explains. The music on For No Apparent Reason validates his quest for meaning – the tracks are strong, emotive artworks infused with beautiful melodies. Dixon’s music can best be described melodic/acoustic/pop/afro/folk/rock. And it comes as no surprise when taking Dixon’s musical influences into account – he lists The Dave Matthews Band, Vusi Mahlasela, Paul Simon, Michael Jackson and Bright Blue as major influences on his music. Dixon even has the opportunity to collaborate with the legendary Vusi Mahlasela on his track 'You Are Mine,' which was an absolute carreer highlight for him, as Mahlasela is one of his childhood heroes. The reason is apparent – talent like Dixon’s deserves to be heard. And South African audiences now have the pleasure of getting to know the prolific Stefan Dixon’s music. ‘South Africa’s most underrated singer/songwriter’ – Channel 24
