简介
THE PROBLEMS are a Williamsburg/NYC based band now working on their second full-length independent CD release, due out in 2009. With the wind of favorable reviews for their debut album "The Problems" at their backs, Frank Caiafa and company are convinced this compelling collection of new material will exceed all expectations. THE PROBLEMS perform an infectious blend of urban and alternative roots-rock, citing alternative rock/country and guitar based pop as influences - with perhaps a bit of punk. Singer/songwriter Caiafa explains; "We hate being pigeon-holed into one category. Because of this bands ability to play whatever the songs demand, the songs take on a life of their own." Currently in the studio with new members Kate Kilbane (bass, vocals) and Eddy Goldberg (banjo, harmonica and vocals), together with founding members Frank Caiafa (guitar, vox) and Barbara Corless (drums), THE PROBLEMS are forging a classic sound which is both current and timeless. When THE PROBLEMS originally began playing in and around N.Y.C, a fortuitous meeting with Smithereens front man Pat Dinizio led to an invite on novel tour concept "The Living Room Tour". This proved to be a remarkable success, and soon THE PROBLEMS were recording their full-length debut album (available at CDBaby.com & iTunes). Enthusiastically received by critics and fans alike, it has been playing across the U.S. and around the world, including on National Public Radio's "All Songs Considered" and on WAXQ 104.3 New York's new music show "Out of the Box". Various cuts can also be heard in rotation on XM satellite radio's "Unsigned" channel and on Pandora.com, among others. In September 2004, Billboard magazine awarded "This Town" an Honorable Mention in their "World Song Contest" Rock/Alternative Rock category. Songs from "The Problems" have been featured in film such as the independent releases, "The Poker Game" and renowned artist Lonnie Hanzon's award winning documentary "Working the Magic." THE PROBLEMS also provide the central theme song ("Ran") for the soon to be released independent film, "The Dying Light". In June of 2006, Frank was a guest on the long-running N.Y. television show, "The New Yorkers." The segment included an extended interview and a live performance of a new song, "Close." In September, THE PROBLEMS were predominately featured on NBC's "Today" show. Their CD was showcased and the song "The Lottery", was included in a segment. October found THE PROBLEMS once again delving into the world of film as Frank and Kate collaborated on the new song, "Schoolyard Steps". Written for the soon to be released short film, "The Truth Of Fiction", Frank makes his return to the big screen, acting in a cameo role. Don't blink or you may miss him. THE PROBLEMS are also excited that GarageBand.com, the independent musicians website, chose "This Town" to be their 'Americana' "Track of the Day" for March 15th, 2007. The Ultimate Band List (ubl.com) has chosen THE PROBLEMS to ba a featured artist for Oct/Nov 2007. "After listening to The Problems CD in my car, I had to play these infectious songs on my morning show. The audience liked them too, they were calling in asking to hear more. This band has a fresh sound, yet familiar; they're a group that you would expect to hear at the Woodstock Fests! I think nothing but good things are in store for The Problems." - Brother Wease, Morning Show Host & Woodstock MC "The CD from 'The Problems' is full of really accessible, catchy rock & roll. The songs are very well crafted and performed with passion. These guys know how to do it." -Dave Kane, WCMF - FM 96.5 Music Director, Midday Host "Listening to The Problems, it's hard to believe they hail from New York. Their blend of jangly, rootsy rock/pop suggest a more rural U.S. home base. The LP gets off to a strong start, with three of the albums best songs: "This Town", "Ain't Over Yet", and the standout "Still". The album doesn't let up after that, with one catchy, head-bopping tune after another, and a few quieter, heartfelt ballads thrown in for good measure. Perhaps the bands biggest "problem" will be to get enough people in our big city to take notice! -The Big Takeover #49 "Think Dave Matthews with a "Big Daddy" era Mellencamp fixation or Rockpile if Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds had studied Ralph Stanley instead of Chuck Berry. Either way, great stuff, original songs that showcase some great heartland rock and killer melodies that add a pop edge." - Freight Train Boogie.com "There's some great arrangements and hook filled tunes to hear, and they're all kept short and tight with minimal fuss. The lyrics are also intelligent and not your normal 'in one ear and out the other' fodder that a lot of bands end up with. Out of the 17 cuts on the album, there's really not a clunker in the bunch, a rare feat indeed." -Backroads Reviews.com "As the singer/songwriter/poet style has resurrected with the Dylan-esque sounds of Ryan Adams, Pete Yorn and Wilco, comes New York based band The Problems, with their impressive debut record. The band confirms they can rock with the best of them on "In For Me" with an X-like vocal ambiance coupled with a Chuck Berry infused guitar solo. There are no problems with The Problems first appearence and in fact if there were a problem, it would be a lack of a recording contract. This group of musicians successfully blend musical genres without confusing the listener. The first outing for The Problems is fun, fresh, energetic, quirky, and poignant collection of very well crafted original songs. -Crud Music Magazine (www.2-4-7-music.com)
