Andy J Forest Singer Songwriter - Harmonica, Slide Guitar & Frattoir player Born in 1955, Andy has been playing harmonica and singing professionally since 1977. He has recorded 7 LPs, 14 cds and two 45s. These recordings feature mostly Forest’s original songs. After living in Europe for ten years he returned to his home New Orleans in 1991 where he plays in clubs and frequently goes on tour in Europe and Canada. Early influences were Sonny Terry, Little Walter Jacobs, Sonny Boy Williamson, James Cotton, Paul Butterfield, Taj Mahal and Charlie Musselwhite - to name a few. He has played on stage with B.B. King, Bobby Blue Bland, Johnny Shines, Champion Jack DuPree, James Booker and many other greats of the Blues. He has written scores of songs, one novel which was published in 3 languages (Letter From Hell) and paints “outside” art, mostly of blues and jazz singers. Andy’s cd “Real Stories: of love labor and other man-made catastrophies” for Slang Records won “Best Blues Album” of 2007 in the Best of The Beat Awards of New Orleans. The newest CD “Andy J Forest in NOtown Story: The Triumph of Turmoil” released in August 2010 features Forest unusual lyrics and a variety of grooves raging from Swamp to Swing and old style Rock n' Roll to New Orleans Funk. L'Amérique d'Andy J Forest n'est pas celle des boys band, de Georges Bush ou de la loi du marché. C'est au contraire celle de Jimmy Hendrix, Miles Davis ou Charlie Parker, celle des idoles de jeunesse d'un artiste qui a compris que l'apparence n'était qu'un leurre. Classe 1955, Andy non è solo un virtuoso dell’armonica; la stoffa del bluesman autentico emerge infatti nei dischi a suo nome, disseminati nell’arco di un ventennio : da – The list – nel 1980 a Sunday Rhumba nel 2001. Una discografia che testimonia bene la crescita di questo musicista che alla formidabile tecnica strumentale unisce grandi capacità espressive, ironia, comunicativa e un carattere esplosivi : doti che colte dal vivo rendono ogni suo concerto un evento da ricordare. In questa estate 2001, Andy proporrà il “Sunday Rhumba tour”,dal titolo del suo ultimo Cd, inciso come ormai tutti gli altri , a New Orleans ,e che uscirà nel mese di giugno. Un Cd diverso ,che entra subito nella mente, da ascoltare e da ballare, curato da un produttore d’eccezione, Anders Osborne, chitarrista -cantante fra i piu’ rinomati di N.O., un disco che riflette perfettamente le ultime influenze musicali della città, non solo blues, ma funky, zydeco ,cajun, una miscela congeniale alla prepotente musicalità di Andy, sicuramente uno dei suoi migliori CD!. Ottima scelta dei musicisti ,dei testi, tutti suoi, e anche qui una novità: mentre il penultimo, Letter from Hell, era la colonna sonora dell’omonimo romanzo, con il quale ha esordito nelle vesti di scrittore, Sunday Rhumba ci presenta le prime opere di Andy-pittore, che non solo ha dipinto se stesso nella copertina , ma anche i ritratti di tutti i musicisti presenti nel Cd; Andy ancora una volta è riuscito a stupirci ! E ha già ottenuto dei lusinghieri consensi per i suoi quadri , sono infatti previste alcune mostre: a Novembre a Parigi, durante un tour che presenterà anche la traduzione francese del suo romanzo, mentre per questa estate è prevista una mostra a Ferrara, presso le Antiche Grotte del Boldini e una a Recanati, presso l’EXTRA- Cinemusic, a Castiglione del Lago, nell’ambito del Trasimeno Blues festival. A New Orleans i suoi dipinti sono tuttora in esposizione in alcune gallerie del French Quarter e l’House of Blues ne ha già acquistati parecchi per i suoi negozi . In Sunday Rhumba Tour si presenta con un quartetto italiano, che non fa sicuramente rimpiangere i colleghi di oltre-oceano presenti nel Cd, è la band migliore che Andy abbia trovato in Italia, ormai sono insieme da diversi anni, affiatatissimi , grintosi e precisi da potersi esibire su qualsiasi palco: sicuramente riusciranno a coinvolgere anche il pubblico piu’ difficile ed esigente, ogni concerto è una riprova della loro bravura.
