简介

This record is the completion of a lyrical trilogy, starting with 2009's "Before I Sleep", in which Sicarii chronicles the trials and tribulations, joys and sturggles, ups and downs of his life over a colorful spectrum of amazing (mostly) self-produced beats. As he states, "I didn't want to do a concept album or an entire project of depressing real life stories, so I decided to splash my life over like 3 joints, with normal hip-hop records and braggadicio street sh*t in there too, to lessen the blow, haha." And so he did, with 2 well recieved full-lengths and a handful of mixtapes and free ep's, "Tomorrow Is A Lie" (or TIAL to insiders) aims to bring closure to the first stage of Sic's solo career, and reinforce the foundation of the future. Countering, "The Awakening (2011)"'s brighter tone and wide variety of sonic beds, TIAL is a sobering, honest-if-dark, tighter (15 tracks compared to 19 each on previous albums) selection, fully embracing the true-school, rugged and raw legacy of mid-90's "east coast classics". Ice Grill responds to the production: "I had just did the Lost In 95 Ep (under the Alien Arafat alias) and heads were really gravitating towards that, suprisingly to me, because it was just some bugged-out Arafat sh*t over 90s style beats, which for the record, is my heart and soul, I love doing that style of beats. Anyway, I was still kinda in that mindstate when I started this record, and it carried over. I wanted to make MY east-coast classic. And i did." However, Sicarii wants to be clear, "this is not a throwback record. This aint some played out, old school, dated sh*t. We still pushing the sound envelope forward. It IS my take on that era's sound and more so, aesthetic, where we aint worrying about radio or making so-called hits, we just spitting our lungs out over the rawest, illest sh*t we can come up with. Also from doing so many shows, I wanted to incorporate songs that we could destroy the stage with." Lyrically, Sicarii tackles topics familiar to him, but still forgotten in the modern rap game: drug addiction, poverty, starving artistry, faith, the difficulty leaving the streets behind, spirituality, his tumultous relationship with his long-time girlfriend, dissatisfaction with the direction of the culture, and a certain theme that has altered his life forever. "The birth of my son. My first child. That is unequivocally the biggest change between albums, the biggest change in ME. He is all over this record, but not in the traditional way, I might got a verse here or there about him, but just the fact, I HAVE A SON, totally alters my perception of life and music, which is one and the same to me." Ice Grill goes on further, clarrifying his point, "but don't ever worry about the god getting soft. I might say something like, 'i'll punch you in the face while my son is laughing' or sh*t like that. It's still real life sh*t in there, and knowledge or self, jewels, reality rap, but its filtered thru the fact that the MC spitting these things, is a father now. And loves it." With the lyrics and beats being a natural evolution of Sicarii's first 2 albums, he also states a certain experimental progression on TIAL: "This is the most realistic of all 3 [albums], it aint always dark but it damn sure aint always hopeful coming up like us. Being that it's my 3rd album I couldn't resist having some numerological undertones too, but yall gotta figure that out. We wanted to take it back, but also, I wanted to make a record that had lots of ear candy, lots of different things happening before and after the songs, interludes (musical and dialogue), some mixing magic and just some ill stuff deep in there people don't pick up on the 1st listen...thats replay value." He continues, finally, "this album is balance, and it was tough. I hate taking songs off. But i had to balance, coming with some left-of-center ideas and structure, with making a succinct, SOLID album that plays straight through. You can listen to certain songs, singles or album tracks, but you get EVEN MORE when you listen from top to bottom. And I had to curb back some ideas too, to balance everything. Maybe on my 7th or 8th album I can go all out with my creative, hair-brain lightbulbs..." Originally slated for a Winter 2011 release, the ambitous nature of the project and growing relationships within the rap community, have caused Sicarii to not asign any particular timetable to the album. "The 'Born To Use Mikes' video is out there poppin, letting people know, we gonna shoot another video too, and [TIAL] gonna come when it's ready and the momentum is just right. We aint rushing nothing out, we make classic material, and we want the business to match the music, so it might just be a little behind schedule. But I'm on Allah's schedule. Plus I wanna put out the BEST possible version of the album. I'm always working, adding stuff, taking stuff off, so I will know when it FEELS done, it's real close. End of winter, early spring, THE LATEST." So, who else is involved on the project? "Oh yeah, features, right?? Well I'm on it, I did all the beats again, haha. All the mixing, recording, I'm like the RZA but more neurotic. But yeah, Tame-One from the Artifacts, Weathermen is on there. The homie Blacastan, Demigodz AOTP is on there, pretty much the whole scene. I want my albums to be like events, where you can see who is poppin in CT and Murda Mass. Legendary Axe (of Masstapeace), Dia Diesel, Vorheez from the Problemaddicts, Tableek from MasPyke, Frank White, Rockoleone from Hartford is on there, my DCSKOR team, team, the white boy Trouble T, he is crazy, we got a joint on there. Joe Young, Big Bishop, the tracklist is heavy. Straight skills." And with Sicarii's last comment, we get the overall theme of the album: "straight skills and incredible raw beats". Sounds good to us. Keep your eyes and ears open for "Tomorrow Is A Lie", cut and bagged for APRIL 2012, and look out for 2nd single, 'Da Arkitect' video along with 'Born To Use Mikes', the street video, out now!
