This song is basically about what it's like to be stuck in a space in time. It's this idea that a person is sorting through the fullness of his or her own humanity and is feeling the heaviness of a troubled heart. This person is trying to get free. They are told to Wade in the Water to (people tell us to do that in many ways that transcends the various religions)...but sometimes people are in a place where they can't even feel the sensation of the water when they even try to soak in it. They can't feel anything at all. This is a place where a person is sort of suspended, not really living but not dead either. Sort of a modern day purgatory being stuck inside one's own arrogance (in its many forms) and not fully being able to participate in the flow of life or accept the resources around them.
