简介

What do you do in a New Country With no Qualifications, no Job Prospects and a Belly Full of Anger? Write and Record Your First Album. ‘Money Now, Money How, Money When’ is the Rock Electro first album written by Australian native, London resident, Nic Capelle. It’s the first real musical offering Capelle has made since leaving Australia in 2006 to realize ‘The Dream’. Leaving behind an unfinished 3 album deal with indie label Floating Point, Capelle severed the cord in pursuit of international success. Spanning 3 solid years of songwriting, with tunes conceived in Australia, Germany and London, this album is the climax of that headstrong decision. Self recorded and mixed in a terrace house in South London, Nic wrote these songs as therapy in lieu of a dream that had still not been fore filled. Each song is biographically inspired, born from futile events or a personal analysis from deep within. The Writing Process – A not so Traditional Band Creation Capelle punts itself as a band, but there has really only ever been one consistent member. The band has been a giant, painfully frequent, revolving door. Hey says, “It’s hard to find good musicians, let alone good musicians who you connect with on a writing level. But things have changed in the last 4 months with the arrival of a killer new drummer Kris”. Kris is a Polish born drummer of many talents including guitar (on tracks, ‘Trouble Zone’ and ‘Lies’), as well as being a qualified Engineer. He’s the first person Nic has ever been able to write with. His creativity and out-of-the-box thinking mean he’s perfect wing-man to Nic’s spontaneous, free-styled writing approach. One of the first tunes written for the album ‘Money’, is still the signature track, the reason for the album title and the single Capelle will be pushing. Inspired by a painful argument with his sister Justine. It all ended in a broken door and wall punching incident, that left a rift between the two siblings for weeks. Nic’s approach to songwriting is usually to start with a riff and drum loop, the rest is free-styled. Much like a rapper would lay down a verse all off-the-cuff, Nic approaches his singing and lyrical content in exactly the same way. Probably the result of a childhood spent listening to NWA, Wu Tang, O.G.C and Onyx. Influences It’s more the music than the vocal style that has been fed by influences. “David Bowie’s ‘Greatest Hits’ played a big part in the eclectic nature of the album” Nic says. Queens of the Stone Age’s ‘Songs For the Deaf’ had an influence on the production of songs like ‘So Lonely’, ‘You Aint Got Ya Way’ and ‘Soldier of Fortune’. The stripped back nature of ‘Money’ can be attributed to the sounds of Kings of Leon’s ‘Charmer’. Nina Simone, Cream, John Lee Hooker and Steely Dan are all cited as having a hand in songs written for the album. The electronic edge that embellishes tracks like ‘Looking In A Mirror’ and ‘Time Better Spent’, were inspired by the likes of Daft Punk and Justice. We also can’t forget the latest line-up’s influence on tracks. Guitarist Fotis Vagenas and bassist Quinton Van Rooyen have helped to bring these tracks to life in an exciting way. Ex drummer Matteo Dignazi, brought a ferocity and colorful embellishment to the tunes that were never present in their programmed form. One consistent influence has been Nic’s sister Justine Capelle. She saw how tough it was for an Australian with no qualifications or job prospects, who knew no one in London, to try and make it. Her fiercely loyal love and uncanny knack for seeing things as a whole, has made her a valuable sounding board and is one of the reason why this album is what it is.
