Rebels And Stars is Texas Rock And Roll. Formed in Dallas in 2015, RNS began doing something very different from the mainstream bands...they write songs with meaning! "I really got tired of the radio stuff. None of the songs on the radio meant anything anymore, so I decided to do something about it and write my own." says singer/guitarist Kevin Newsom. The songs from Rebels And Stars debut EP, The Mandela Effect, reflect this "keep it real" attitude. From the beginning notes of the opening song, The Beautiful Life, it becomes obvious that Rebels And Stars won't shy away from telling the truth. The song was written after Kevin met a famous actress...and was shocked to see how sad she seemed. "I was really excited to meet her. She had been in several big movies I enjoyed. And she was really beautiful and friendly. But obviously very sad...it was clear that the life she was living was taking a heavy toll. And it really affected me. So I had to write about it." says the singer. What follows the bluesy Beautiful Life is nothing short of a rock and roll blow torch. House Divided, the second track, is a hard rocking ride through the travails of a very rocky relationship. "The contents of House Divided are based on a very true story. A true story that, fortunately enough, I lived through." quipped Kevin. The third song on the EP, All Alone Again, has been a fan favorite since the first few shows. Originally written as a country song, Newsom found it difficult to use the standard "woe is me" formula. "I wrote All Alone Again in the style of the old country singers. Unlike the new pop country stuff, those guys really lived what they sang. And I dig that. But I couldn't just sit there and complain the whole time like some pop star. So half of the song is me making fun of myself and making a joke out of feeling sorry for myself. And it turned into a really fun song." Rebels And Stars debut EP, The Mandela Effect, contains three stories, in the form of songs. Each one is a little different. And each song is very unique. This debut record represents what many of us have been waiting to hear for a very long time: a return to meaningful, fun, and creative rock music. A rock band that isn't Hollywood plastic or a studio creation. And, most importantly, a band that does it for the fun of making good music.
