Favorite Records comes back at you with Mister Modo and Ugly Mac Beer, the creators of Mo Dougly Weird Stories (feat. Mike Ladd, Thirdsight, D-Styles, MF Grimm, Monsta Island Czars). The twosome hit us this time with the first 7" off of their album to come, MODONUT, a respectful nod at Jay Dillas donut. Modo is an insatiable digger, having overloaded his MPC with heady and captivating loops, and fat beats. Mac Beer, who is the head of the label Diess Prod (DJ Troubl', DJ Kodh, Le Jad, Scratch Science) is a gifted scratcher and sequencer. On side A, after an intro worthy of music from the best vintage TV series, the duo welcome soul-jazz singer Jessica Fitoussi, her warm voice hued with a 70s French vibe. The B side holds a Gainsbourg-inspired instrumental track and a jumpy interlude, both working up ones curiosity as to what lies ahead for the second 7 and their album to come.
