简介

R.M Hendrix is the project of Boston, MA designer, R. Michael Hendrix. In 2012 "Last Days of Black" was named by NYC's Dreamwave as one of the top 25 Shoegaze tracks of the year. "Summer Dresses" was in Boston Phoenix's top tracks of 2012. Urban Turks Country Jerks is his 11th release and his first on Moon Sounds Records. Adding new textures to what the Boston Phoenix previously dubbed as "dream-pop fuzz" and other reviewers likened to New Order meets Dinosaur Jr., R.M. Hendrix's new album is his most diverse and realized artistic statement to date. "Urban Turks Country Jerks" is an 11 song set written over 18 months. It began with lonely songs wrapped in the haze of Alabama humidity then became fully developed in Cambridge, Massachusetts amidst congested subway commutes. Originally conceived as a double album, city and country eventually blended into a single existential somewhere. The result is a collection of songs with the pace and textures of shoegaze that reach beyond the borders of the genre to include broken timbres of Americana, Britpop, and New Wave. The first single, "Wasted Summer", which is available now, is a nervous, dizzy number dancing on a heavy groove. By its second verse Hendrix is whining "slur your chest" in a call-response with his guitar like he's barely hanging on (a persona that shows again on the album's floor stomper, "Paper Lies"). The second single, which will be released April 18 with album pre-orders, is "In this Daydream", a confidently building shoegaze anthem that abruptly drops off a lunar cliff then explodes into a raging Slowdive-like climax. Finally, in its sixth minute, the naked crack of Steve Scully's drums bring it to a close. Anxious themes are woven throughout, from "Wasted Summer's" frantic beat, to the chaotic loops and hissing lyrics of the title track. Alongside this anxiousness are songs of optimism through first love (a dub step inspired ballad "Stars in Your Eyes"), ordinary days (the motorik "Kindness of Strangers") and redemption (the upbeat pop closer "Those were Dark Days"). Hendrix recorded the majority of the album in his Massachusetts home, with additional tracking and production by Jon Lupfer (Aimee Mann, Buffalo Tom) at Q Division, and drums performed by Steve Scully (Juliana Hatfield, Gem Club). Jason Martin (Starflyer 59) mastered the album.
