I used to be a very shy girl. My father ruled our household with an iron fist and once he said something, that was it. NO more talking. So writing became my outlet and therapy. I'm a spiritual person who acknowledges the power of God. I'm an inspirational poet and spoken word artist who remains true to who I am. Each track is written from a personal experience except one, which was written from an empathetic perspective to encourage Black men in a world that seems to be targeting all of them because of a few rotten apples. I named the CD "Your Wings Are Ready" because I've come a long way. This is the next level for me. It's time to fly. I never foresaw releasing a CD. To begin with, I never even wanted to be a spoken word artist. I hated being in front of people, being the center of attention where all eyes were on me. Never liked a lot of attention. I just wanted to write some books. But I just didn't know how to get started on anything. I've been writing for years and knew that I needed to do something with it. It was during 21 days of consecration, God revealed my purpose as a writer and also my need to speak. Before this, I had not been able to memorize any of my work. In January of 2015, I was invited to a birthday party to share my gift. It was set up like a poetry set. When I got called to perform, something in me sparked. I gave that mic all I had. After that, I wanted to go to more poetry sets. Then I made attempts memorizing pieces and they stuck. Then i memorized more pieces. Before I knew it, I became a part of a great poetry team who pushed me out of my comfort zone and encouraged me to do things I never thought I could or would ever do. And now, here in 2017, I've released my very first spoken word CD. I'm already making plans for CD #2 and a book. I'm spreading my wings.
