Plus Plus kicks off the last quarter of 2014 with a four track EP from Germanys very own Unfug. The Der Taucher EP starts off with Unfug showing his smoother side with Der Angler. A fat, warm bass sets the mood with soft, haunting guitars in the background. The soulful organs give the track direction with all the elements working in unison, not so much leading the way as much as they are playing with each other back and forth. Der Taugenichts picks up right where Der Angler left off. A warm organ invites you in with the help a synth line reminiscent of a saxophones unique overtones. The bassline is definitely more driving this time around, but still has that fat, warm growl that vertebrates through ones chest. The guitars return but in a much more joyful manner, bouncing around in its own wave delay while proving depth and space. The EPs title track takes a completely different turn when compared to the opening tracks. The soft, swirling almost wave like synth provides a false sense of security before the dubby synth stabs make their presence known. The thick bassline is simple yet effective, it provides the foundation while the drums push the groove along. Once again, the guitars make their grand entrance. With a warm fuzz, the guitars provide the drive and push, crescendoing before the main groove once again drops back in and carries the track to its conclusion. Unfugs final track is the yin to Der Tauchers yang. Kaeptn Starts of with the sound of waves crashing on the shoreline as the accordion eases its way in. With a fun, quirky groove and feel good positive vibes you cant help but smile as you move to the mood that Kaeptn creates. First up on remix duties we have a familiar face. Raul Garcia goes solo on this time around with his remix of Der Taucher. With a drum groove that bounces and moves, Raul creates his signature cacophony of sound with synths swelling and swirling while the dubbed out chords from the original ride underneath. The track creates a feeling of tension throughout while never releasing it but still maintains its drive and late night energy. Almost as a flip side to Rauls remix, Matt McLean takes Der Taucher in the opposite direction. With a heavy, defined kick and hi hats the pushes the groove along, Matts remix contains his signature slinky low end bass that compliments the synth line progression. Placing the guitars over the top with subtle spacial effects, Matt creates a unique dark vibe while still building a melodic monster. Jason Bays take on Kaeptn would seem to be the odd duck of the remix round, but he definitely leaves his mark. With a simple but effective drum pattern to push the track, Jason tears apart the guitars and bends them to his will as he places the single dubbed out strums over the top. The baseline chugs along with the track until the break where the big 808 hits pushes the guitar solo into a peak time floor filler. New to the Plus Plus family, The Black Cat Project takes Der Taugenichts and turns it on its head. Where the original created a smooth groove, TBCPs Loafer remix doesnt hold anything back. With its machine driven groove and gnarly bassline sitting underneath, the original organ line beautifully sits in place along with the saxophone-esque synth line creating welcomed depth and space. The Black Cat Projects Loafer remix is masterful blend of smooth grooves sitting along side a machine driven techno assault and we couldnt be any more excited about the results.
