简介

“filled with sweetness and love...Quite an array of colors and feelings throughout and masterfully played. Bravissimos!!” - Jon Damian Brothers is a musical quilt of style and form, held together in a seamless flow. Sounding deceptively simple, the music is free yet composed, intuitive while deliberate. At first we hear the strum of a folk guitar joined by the sweet cry of a campfire harmonica. In Brothers, the musical worlds are broad, as the steel guitar softens to a classical nylon, while the harmonica recalls a contemplative oboe. The musical shifts may be great, but never jarring. It’s a journey of logic and grace. In the gospel-tinged original, “Set Sail”, soaring harmonica riffs and rolling piano chords are set free. A jam emerges; imagine the Grateful Dead without guitars! Brothers creates new forms, melding structure with spontaneous explorations, serious composition rooted in the soul of blues and the whimsy of folk rock. In the joyous free swing of “Accelerando”, these brothers live in the moment while creating a long arc of musical storytelling. We travel through strains of back beat rock n roll, a lilting jazz waltz, and down-home blues. The album ends reflectively in a communion of resonating piano strings and delicate shimmering cymbals; a beautiful conclusion to this stunning album of rich sounds, thoughts, and emotions. After years of performing independently, in varied styles around the world, Ralph and Josh embarked on this uncharted adventure, with shared knowledge and the wisdom to trust the intuitive. Josh Rosen grew up in Brooklyn, NY, and has been improvising and composing since age 13. After studies with Fred Hersch, he attended New England Conservatory (Bachelors, Jazz Piano; Masters, Composition) and settled in Boston. Josh has performed and recorded with jazz greats Mick Goodrick, George Garzone, Joe Lovano, Greg Hopkins, Bob Moses, Stan Strickland, Mark Walker, Eugene Friesen, Phil Grenadier, John Lockwood, Dennis Irwin, Steve Slagle, Bennie Wallace, George Schuller, The Either/Orchestra and Ethiopian master musician Mulatu Astake, among many others. ZiggleZaggle Music has previously released two albums of Rosen‘s music. “American Waltz”, with 3play+ and jazz greats George Garzone and Mick Goodrick, and “Instinct”, with Boston legend, Stan Strickland. A chamber jazz project, “Sparks”, featuring Eugene Friesen and Mark Walker, will be released later this year. In addition, Josh has composed music and sound design for numerous films and other projects. A professor at Berklee College of Music since 1995, Rosen has been honored with the College’s Faculty Mentor Award. "Rosen's compositions are considerably sophisticated... throughout this mix of alternately melodic and more tonally abstruse jazz, there’s a sensibility ranging from sly and funny to warmly, indelibly tuneful." - Lucid Culture Ralph Rosen began playing drums in 1964 in rock and soul bands in and around Hartford, CT. He earned a degree in Music Education from the University of Connecticut and a Masters in Performance from Boston University in 1978. Since then, Ralph has performed with prominent blues artists; from the legendary Bo Diddley, Albert King, Al Kooper, John Hammond, Jimmy Vivino and Joe Beard to regional notables Ronnie Earl, Duke Robillard, Stovall Brown, Michelle Willson and Ricky King Russel. His jazz career includes performances with Bud Johnson, Norris Tunney, Billy Mitchell, Hale Smith, Gray Sargent, Wayne Krantz, George Garzone, Bill Frisell, Billy Pierce, Dave McKenna, David "Fathead" Newman, Rebecca Paris and John Medeski. Playing drums with the Bruce Katz Band for 21 years, Ralph toured internationally and recorded 7 CDs. His versatility has allowed him to contribute to many other recording projects including harmonica performances with the Moonbox theater group and the Boston Modern Orchestra Project. As a composer, Rosen has recorded and produced 3 recordings under his own leadership. As one jazz critic describes it, Rosen's work is "expansive and architectonic". zigglezagglemusic.com
